The next stage on our travel through alternate realities is virtual reality. It offers the user a fully immersive experience. VR devices and accessories (such as glasses, headsets, sensors or treadmills...) are used to put the viewer in a new reality created from zero. Inside are elements that can replicate completely the reality or even, on the contrary, create a totally imaginary world.
When he enters the virtual scene, depending on the solutions chosen by the client, one can interact with all its elements, change and transform them, move inside the decor, solve some tasks, collect things...
In the “Workshop” project, the client wanted to present the security procedures that need to be fulfilled before using a hazardous machine. In order to achieve that goal, we created a workshop with all the necessary items for the worker to complete his task successfully and safely.
Instructions :
Select the protective clothing you should wear before switching on the saw and cutting the block. Enter the workshop and put on the security gloves, the glasses and the helmet. Then switch on the saw and cut through the block.
As part of a customer request we had to create and implement ideas around a „Future Train“ in a Virtual Reality scenario.
We had to focus on two priorities :
1. Create new „never seen“ things.
2. Create a new User experience combined to existing features.
The idea was to provide passengers with a unique and enjoyable trip, where nothing is missing and with interactive and intuitive features.
From booking the journey to check out of the train the passengers would come in contact with features like:
- Informations about free seats, departure time, etc, displayed on glass walls, holograms
- Face recognition for Check In process
- Lightways inside the train to single seating places.
- Seats equiped with sensors monitoring health relevant informations about the passenger (weight, blood pressure and rythm...).
- Remember function for keys, mobile phone, money or luggage stored into boxes inside the train
As a result we created for the client an amazing VR adventure where he can test some
features and feel how they work. (The movie/picture shows the features the client allowed to showcase)
As special features we implemented different kind of train compartments:
- A Meeting Center
- An Interactive Compartment (with standing places for short trips)
- A Fitness Compartment
- A VIP Compartment for confidential meetings
As a request from a „truck driver association" about how they can easily reach all drivers of different backgrounds to train on the topic "Safety during the truck charge" and thus to deepen the understanding of the process. The solution was quickly found: a mobile multi-language VR training.
The focus should be on an easy way of understanding how important it is to make the truck charge safe. During the development process, we created a prototype of that training including an instruction part at the beginning of the training and a questionnaire part at the end.
Currently, the user can decide between different levels of training (beginner, advanced, expert), can teleport himself through the scene and solve tasks. Based on the selected charge the user has to decide of the right position of the charge and the needed safety accessories e.g. like metal straps, rubber mats or airbags.
Only when the user decides about the right position and selects the complete safety set for this charge, can he start with the questionnaire. The questionnaire at the end of the training completes the practical part and deepens what the user has learned. If the training has been successfully passed, the user receives a certificate of attendance and the supervisor documents information about the training.
As a starting point for the project “escape and rescue plan” we considered the following themes:
- How, and above all, how often can an evacuation exercise be performed?
- Do all employees know where the gathering point is located?
- Do all employees know the second escape route?
- Do all employees know where the first aid kit is?
The idea was to create a VR application that would help all employees:
- know how to read the escape and rescue plan,
- where the escape routes lead along and where they should gather
- where the nearest 1st aid box is located
so that they know what to do and avoid mistakes in "real" life, when facing a real emergency case.
After a quick explanation, the employee is moved to an office where he has to orientate himself, find and read the "escape and rescue plan". When he hears a warning siren, indicating that the building must be evacuated, he has to take the right path: Main rescue route or second rescue route.
To move through the scene, the employee use the teleportation points appearing on the floor. He can memorize where are situated the evacuation maps, the signs guiding toward the exits and the first aid kit, much better while moving through the “real environment”. Advantage: every employee can go through the exercise as often as needed.
A final questionnaire completes the exercise with general questions on this topic. If all questions are answered correctly, the employee receives a final applause. An input field at the end of the instruction asks for feedback to continuously improve the application.
